REACH is a member of the Darke County Character Council and works in cooperation with the Council to promote good character throughout our service area. Monthly character qualities are listed, defined, and implementation ideas are suggested on this site.

Darke County Character Council

The Character Council of Darke County was formed as a result of the passage of two resolutions. The city council of Greenville passed a resolution designating Greenville as a City of Character in November, 1999. The Darke County Board of Commissioners passed a similar resolution to promote positive character qualities throughout the county in August, 2001. The commitment to promoting character in families, churches, government, medicine, law enforcement, schools, and business, media, and community groups served as the impetus for the formation of the Character Council. Individuals serve on committees representing each of the above mentioned entities and each adds perspective and insight as they serve on the council.

The mission of the Darke County Character Council is: “ to work together as citizens to encourage good character in ourselves, each other, our families and our communities.” Their motto is: Character: If it’s going to be, it’s up to me.”
Each month, a different character quality is emphasized with the desire that schools, businesses, churches, organizations, government leaders, law enforcement, media and families will teach and reward the value of that particular quality. The same message taught, encouraged, and reinforced will help create a culture of character throughout Darke County.
